The FuryI named this site The Fury because fury is very important to radical feminists and our politics. Sheila Jeffreys emphasised this when she said, "You have to be enraged. Rage is absolutely fundamental - not anger, it's not strong enough. It has to be rage." In Pure Lust, Mary Daly also highlights the importance of fury in fighting the patriarchy. “Women sever our Selves from the State of Severance by the force of righteous Fury, unleashed Rage.” She argues that we must focus our fury in order to effectively do this: “Focusing our Fury, we join the Raging Race.” Determined to bring about the revolution, the Furies Collective formed in 1970. The group of women lived together and shared everything, in an attempt to get rid of all power differences. They created a newspaper, a child-care centre, a school that taught car repair, home repair and self-defence, and according to one member, Rita Mae Brown, they “…wreaked havoc in the community”. The Furies are important to the herstory of radical feminism because as Rita wrote, “We did go into uncharted territory. Women had not lived the way we did, not that I know of. We exposed the real divisions between us. Only by understanding those differences can we overcome them.” ContactThis website was constructed by a student of radical feminism from the University of Melbourne. It is inevitable that I have left out some Australian radical feminists, or their online resources, groups, and organisations. To correct this problem, please email me at gertrudegreen@hotmail.com I hope that as I receive comments, my website will become a more inclusive and valuable resource to radical feminists.
