Diane Bell

Over the past two decades Diane has undertaken extensive field work with Aboriginal people in various parts of Australia and more recently in the USA. She has published widely, with a focus on aboriginal culture, especially aboriginal women. Her books include Evil (2005), Ngarrindjeri Wurruwarrin: A World that is, was, and will be (1998), and Radically Speaking: Feminism Reclaimed (1996) (co-editor). Recently, she has been working on water rights for Indigenous People in South Australia

Susan Hawthorne

Susan is a poet, novelist, publisher (Spinifex Press), theorist and circus performer (in POW). Susan is a long-time activist who has also worked in academia across a number of disciplines. She is author of Wild Politics (2002), co-editor of September 11, 2001: Feminist Perspectives (2002) and co-editor of CyberFeminism (1999). Her latest book is a work of poetry, The Butterfly Effect (2005). Susan is a research fellow at Victoria University, and has recently been researching the invisibility of the torture of lesbians.

Sheila Jeffreys

Sheila has been active in the Women’s Liberation Movement since 1973 and is a founding member of the Coalition Against Trafficking in Women Australia (CATWA). She writes and speaks internationally on aspects of sexual exploitation such as prostitution, trafficking, sex tourism, child prostitution, stripping and pornography. She is the author of six books, including The Idea of Prostitution (1997), Unpacking Queer Politics : A Lesbian Feminist Perspective (2003) and, most recently, Beauty and Misogyny: Harmful Cultural Practices in the West (2006). Sheila teaches sexual politics and international feminist politics at the University of Melbourne.

Renate Klein

Biologist and social scientist, Renate is a long-term health researcher and has written extensively on reproductive technologies and feminist theory. She is a former associate professor in Women's Studies at Deakin University in Melbourne, a founder of FINRRAGE (Feminist International Network of Resistance to Reproductive and Genetic Engineering) and an Advisory Board Member of Hands Off Our Ovaries. Renate is also a publisher (Spinifex Press) and (co)-author/(co)-editor of four books of feminist theory and six books on reproductive medicine.

Betty McLellan

Ethicist, author, psychotherapist and committed activist of long standing, Betty is one of the four women who comprise the Coalition for a Feminist Agenda. She has written three books, including Help! I’m Living with a [Man]Boy (1999, 2006) which has been published in 12 languages. Her fourth book, in progress, focuses on the politics of speech as a feminist ethical issue.

Jocelynne A. Scutt

Jocelynne is a lawyer and director of Artemis Publishing. She has been a director of the Victorian Women’s Trust, and is a member of various boards. Some of her books are Even in the Best of Homes: Violence in the Family, The Baby Machine: Commercialisation of Motherhood, and The Sexual Gerrymander: Women and the Economics of Power. She is also editor of the Artemis ‘Women’s Voices, Women’s Lives’ series. Jocelynne is now the Anti-Discrimination Commissioner for Tasmania, administering the Anti-Discrimination Act 1998 (Tasmania). Check out her website to find out more.

Mary Lucille Sullivan

Mary is a feminist activist and member of the Australian branch of the Coalition Against Trafficking in Women. Her works include Making Sex Work: A Failed Experiment with Legalised Prostitution (2007) and What Happens When Prostitution Becomes Work: An update on legalised prostitution in Australia (2006).

Denise Thompson

Denise is a radical feminist theorist who has always worked outside academic institutions. Her published works include Reading Between the Lines: A Lesbian Feminist Critique of Feminist Accounts of Sexuality (1991) and Radical Feminism Today (2001). Bronwyn Winter

Bronwyn’s research covers areas such as women, religion, culture, ethnicity and rights; women in Australian society and politics; transnational feminist theory and activism; and women, globalisation and militarisation. She is contributing co-editor of September 11, 2001: Feminist Perspectives (2002) and is currently working on a book on the French debate over the Islamic headscarf. Bronwyn is a senior lecturer at the University of Sydney.
